Papuan Bay area is populated by various tribes and their art styles have a few common elements. One of them is presence of flat but oval sculptures – with one-side decorations of anthropomorphic figure designed in low relief. There used to live powerful ghosts (imunu) in those wooden statues who provided protection to their owners and harm to enemies. Gope statues used to be situated in sacred place of men’s houses nearby ancestor’s skulls and war trophies. The object is delivered together with tailored made rack.
